The Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Media, University of Gezira, is one of the most important and prestigious journalism departments in Sudan. It strives to prepare and qualify distinguished graduates academically, professionally, and ethically, equipping them to compete in the job market by providing them with the most important and up-to-date knowledge and skills in using modern technologies and tools.
The department focuses on teaching journalism and publishing in both print and digital formats, with a particular emphasis on digital journalism, recognizing its future potential. The department also pays special attention to written journalistic content and digital photojournalism, as well as printing as a crucial element of journalistic work.
The department combines the rich heritage of print journalism with the latest innovations in digital journalism within the digital media environment. It boasts a diverse faculty of academic experts and experienced professionals. The department’s approach relies on scientific methodology, cultural development, and practical application in the faculty’s laboratories and media institutions across all stages of journalistic work, from initial conception and editing to publishing across various media platforms. Vision: To be a leading model in practical and applied training within the field of media studies and the competitive professional job market, encompassing the fundamentals of journalistic practice and information technology.
Mission: The department aims to graduate creative journalists across all stages and specializations of media work through a range of academic content and applied programs. Graduates will also master multimedia writing techniques, including text writing and the art of still and moving images, across various media platforms.
Strategic Objectives of the Department of Print and Electronic Journalism:
1. To enhance the effectiveness of the curriculum within the framework of the Journalism Department’s program and related curricula across the college, by identifying appropriate content, proposing development suggestions, and selecting up-to-date academic references.
2. To adopt a policy of continuous practical training for students, taking into account the needs of professional practice, the college’s capabilities, and the nature of journalistic work.
3. To prepare the department’s program for academic accreditation by accredited accreditation and quality assurance bodies in Sudan.
4. To establish a system of guiding values in the teaching and learning processes and their subsequent impact on journalistic work. 5/ Participating in marketing services through workshops, consultations, and training with a number of media organizations, while also entering into partnerships to collaborate with relevant institutions and producing professional content that can be marketed in the job market.
The department qualifies students to become academically and practically qualified journalists through training during their studies. It also prepares them to become specialized photojournalists, editors for electronic and print websites, and provides them with a thorough understanding of printing principles and techniques.
