The department was established in 2000, keeping pace with global developments in the field of knowledge, including the knowledge explosion, the proliferation of communication methods, and the flow of information. It also anticipates future development requirements, God willing, and aims to provide comprehensive preparation for graduates.
Vision:
The department strives for excellence and to offer the best through scientific advancements in library and information technology across various fields of knowledge.
Mission:
To prepare and train qualified and specialized personnel to work with high efficiency in professions related to the field of library and information science in universities, companies, archives departments, institutes, and research centers.
Growth and Development:
The department began with its first cohort of 22 students. It has since grown, witnessing an increase in enrollment thanks to curriculum development and the introduction of modern courses related to information technology and computers.
Activities:
The department organizes numerous activities and events, such as workshops and conferences, and promotes the role of libraries and information science in the educational process. For example, the department organized a workshop on “The School Library and its Role in the Educational Process” in collaboration with the Sudanese Library and Information Association. Collaboration: The department collaborates with other institutions within and outside the university, such as the Sudanese Library and Information Association, to promote the role of libraries in the community.
Community Impact: Throughout its history, the department has presented numerous seminars and lectures to the Al-Hasahisa community and students on topics such as school libraries, electronic archiving, and file management.
Future Aspirations:
1. Raising community awareness of the importance of school libraries in the educational process and providing support to the community.
2. Developing new academic programs in specialized fields such as data science, artificial intelligence, and modern information technologies.
3. Updating curricula to keep pace with modern developments and encouraging faculty members and students to publish scientific research in peer-reviewed journals.
4. Strengthening international cooperation with other universities and research institutions to exchange experiences and knowledge.
5. Implementing modern technology in education and applied research.
