Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics stands as a cornerstone of the Faculty of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, with its history deeply intertwined with the founding of the Faculty itself in 1993.
The department began its academic journey with great vigor and became an independent administrative entity in 2007 under the leadership of Professor Mahdi Afifi Abdelhamid, the first Head of Department.
Today, it comprises a distinguished team of sixteen faculty members, all dedicated to nurturing a new generation of mathematics professionals.
Distinguished Graduates and Societal Impact
The department takes pride in producing highly qualified and specialized graduates in the field of mathematical sciences.
Our alumni hold key leadership, teaching, and academic positions in prestigious Sudanese universities and across various vital sectors both inside and outside the country — a testament to the quality of education we provide.
In addition, the department plays a vital role in supporting other faculties within the university by teaching fundamental courses in mathematics and computer science across multiple disciplines.
Future Aspirations
In response to rapid scientific developments and the evolving demands of the job market, the department is currently updating and expanding its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
These updates include broadening specialization areas in Pure Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, providing greater academic options and research opportunities for our students and scholars.
