A delegation of researchers from the Department of Agricultural Education of the University of Gottingen in Germany, which headed by Dr. Michel Debold, and the Director of UNESCO Chair for Desertification at University of Khartoum, Prof. Mubarak Abdul Rahman, visited the Research Experiments Farm of the National Institute of Desert Studies at El- Dabba on the 3rd of December, to conduct the joint research with the Institute of Desertification Studies and Desert Cultivation.
The research aims to study how to produce for each drop of water in the marginal land and in areas that suffer from lack of irrigation water by carrying out deep studies related to Rhizosphere. The research farm of the institute was chosen in Al Dabba for experiment. The Delegation has an integrated idea of the research project to be implemented, which was funded by the Robert-Bosch Foundation.
The delegation examined the experiments which carried out as a partnership with the Land and Water Centre of the Agricultural Research Corporation for Land Reclamation. The delegation praised the quality of these experiments, which aim to increase the productivity of agricultural crops by improving soil properties. A visit was also paid to Argi area to examine the sand crawling in the area and the sand residuum in the form of sand dunes.
The Director of the Institute, Dr. Ali Abdullah Mohd, welcomed the visiting delegation and the joint cooperation between the German side and UNESCO Chair for Desertification at University of Khartoum.
The delegation wrapped up the visit by giving thanks to the Administration of the Institute for their hospitality and reception, stressing that this experience will be the beginning of great cooperation between the Institute and the Germans and that they are ready to cooperate in the fields of climate change, land reclamation and water management. And also, the cooperation through short training courses and graduate studies.
