Department of Hematology and Immunological Hematology
Vision
To achieve excellence and leadership in the field of Hematology and Immunohematology education, training, and research, and to prepare qualified laboratory professionals capable of providing high-quality diagnostic services and contributing to the development of healthcare.
Mission
To provide distinguished academic education and practical training in the fields of Hematology and Immunohematology, and to equip Medical Laboratory Sciences students with the knowledge and skills required to perform laboratory investigations and diagnose blood disorders, while adhering to quality and safety standards and promoting scientific research and community service.
Objectives
- To provide students with scientific knowledge about blood composition, blood cell functions, and various hematological disorders and their mechanisms.
- To train students in practical skills for performing and interpreting hematological investigations, including:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Peripheral Blood Film (PBF)
- Bone Marrow Examination
- Coagulation Tests
- To prepare students in the field of Immunohematology, including understanding:
- ABO and Rh blood group systems
- Compatibility testing and blood transfusion procedures
- Detection of unexpected antibodies
- Blood bank practices.
- To develop students’ ability to interpret laboratory results and correlate them with clinical conditions.
- To apply quality assurance and biosafety standards within laboratory settings.
- To encourage students and academic staff to conduct scientific research and promote innovation in Hematology and Immunohematology.
- To develop graduates’ communication skills, teamwork abilities, and professional responsibilities.
- To contribute to community service by preparing competent laboratory professionals who support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and safe blood transfusion practices.
