Department Establishment:

The Department of Animal Production, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, was established in 1975 as one of the first departments in the faculty. Studies began in 1978, and the first class graduated in 1984. The department’s philosophy, which is part of the University of Gezira’s philosophy, is based on two fundamental pillars: the integration of knowledge and education linked to the community, to identify community issues and conduct research on these issues to find solutions.

Department Vision:

Continuously developing educational and research programs to prepare graduates competitive at the local and regional levels. Enhancing training programs to improve the skill and technical level of workers in the animal production sector at the local and regional levels. Linking scientific research plans with national development plans to deepen the concept of Research and Development (R&D). Providing technological packages for breeders and small farmers that contribute to increased production and income, environmental protection, and village development. Excellence in teaching, scientific research, and community service.

Department Mission:

1. Actively participating in achieving agricultural, economic, and social development in Sudanese society in general, and rural society in particular. 2. Conducting academic and applied research that contributes to scientific knowledge and solves societal problems.

Department Objectives:

1. Preparing specialized human resources capable of playing their role in developing the agricultural sector, particularly the livestock sector. Conducting research aimed at solving agricultural production problems, increasing productivity, and improving quality.

2. Enriching useful scientific knowledge in the fields of animal production through continuous qualification and training.

3. Long-term and short-term planning for the development and advancement of the livestock sector.

4. Strengthening scientific ties between the department and educational, research, production, and service institutions within and outside Sudan. Keeping pace with rapid scientific and technological developments in the field of animal production.

5. Promoting scientific research through excellence in research and postgraduate studies.

6. Actively participating in all initiatives that contribute to ensuring food security.
