Researching the Reality and Future of Postgraduate Studies in the Agricultural Sector

The University of Gezira is arranging for a careful reading of the issue of postgraduate studies in the agricultural sector, the reality and the future, in light of a steady decline in the number of students in this sector. It was decided to hold a one-day scientific workshop, to be set at the end of next November to look into the reasons for the Decreased  acceptance  of postgraduate studies programs in this important and rapidly declining economic sector, and searching for an effective solutions to that. And participate in this workshop – according to the proposed program the faculty of Agricultural Sciences at University of Gezira, the faculty of Agriculture at the University of Khartoum and the faculty of Agricultural Studies at Sudan University of Science and Technology, in addition to the Agricultural Research corporation and the Gezira Scheme with the scientific papers. A higher committee was formed to supervise the works of sub-committees to follow up and  fully supervise the preparation and implementation of the workshop and its program and to prepare all the liabilities, in addition to a financial committee to prepare the necessary budgets and follow up the spending and supervise the service aspects. Communication committees were also formed to promote the workshop, and to communicate with the participating authorities by attending or with working papers, in addition to communicating with the proposed bodies to provide financial support, in addition to a secretarial committee to record and document the workshop activities, formulate the final recommendations and outputs and deliver them to the concerned authorities.  The contact committee headed by deputy Dean of Scientific Research at the University of Gezira Dr. Moataz Saeed Babiker Mahmoud, in its meeting Tuesday discussed the tasks and functions of the committee and the proposed work plan. The rapporteur of the committee Dr. Ayman Hashem Awad Al-Karim, stressed that the expected role before, after and during the workshop in the aspect of preparation, planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation, in addition to leading the process of promotion, coverage and marketing makes the communication committee one of the most important committees of the workshop.  He pointed out that the next stage requires building a comprehensive and clear picture of the workshop program, implementing the media mission based on effective coverage and keeping up the continuous activities of the workshop, in addition to coordinating with the mass media to define the objectives, ensuring wide media coverage, coordinating and following up the dates of holding various events and activities and coordinate with the rest of the committees to follow up the work and activities. The committee mandated the Media and Public Relations Department to raise the requirements related to the documentation process to include it in the budget and raise it to the steering committee and to prepare an integrated vision in this regard, while it was decided that the Computer and Information Technology Center would prepare a web page for communication purposes, in addition to opening an electronic file that is constantly updated. The meeting decided to form a working group to prepare a database for the workshop, and to implement a media campaign through various mass media, including conducting public opinion measurements through the (questionnaire) tool.
