Maternity Institute: Reduce Maternal Mortality to “70” by 2030

Dean of the Institute for Safe Motherhood and Childhood ,Dr. Yasser Mohamed El Hassan, predicted that the institute’s efforts will contribute to reducing maternal mortality to 70 cases per 100,000 live births by the year 2030. The mortality rate dropped to 129 cases per 100 000 live births after the launch of the initiative, While previously estimated about “500” cases. Dr. Yasser confirmed During his presidency the meeting of the Maternal Mortality Investigation committee that these efforts are in line with the Institute’s goals represented by reducing maternal mortality and neonatal. The meeting came against the backdrops to take help of Wad Medani Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital with the Institute on the side of reducing maternal mortality and identifying causes of death. The meeting was attended by the Reproductive Health Coordinator at theĀ  Ministry of Health at the state , the Deputy Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Adam. Dr. Yasir carried out a supervisory visits to the maternity hospitals in the localities of the state to determine the quality of the service provided in the maternity rooms and the quality of health services from medical staff, health insurance, buildings and other services. And stressed the importance of the establishment of a committee to investigate maternal deaths in the Obstetrics and Gynecology hospitals at the state’s localities, including health visitor, statistician, and the Director of Health Affairs. The Committee shall immediately report the deaths through the investigation form for its analysis and the causes of death. Dr. Yaser appreciated the Effective partnership between University of Gezira and the Ministry of Health in the State. The committee was formed by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Adam, as chairman, the reproductive health coordinator in the state as alternate chairman, and membership of the deputy director of Wad Medani Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology, the civil registry registrar in the state, Beside the Statistics Technician at Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Wad Medani, and One of the deputies of obstetricians and Gynecology Hospital in Wad Medani, sister Fatima Ahmed Abdullah, and Asma Abdel Halim.
