University of Gezira has been awarded the honorary doctorate of Malaysian President Mahathir Mohamed in recognition of his efforts to move Malaysia from developing countries to the world’s most developed countries by maximizing the role of valuable oil crops. The idea of awarding the honorary doctorate to the Malaysian president came from the former dean of the national oilseed processing research institute Prof. Ismail Hassan Hussein. This came during a visit by the Charge d’Affaires of the Malaysian Embassy yesterday to the National oilseed processing research institute (Nubri), accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of the University prof. Mohamed El Sanousi Mohamed and Deputy of the Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Babiker Al -Awad. Where he briefed on the objectives and vision of the University of Gezira as well as the faculties and institutes through the presentation which presented by the Director of the administration of External Relations and International Cooperation at the University Dr. Mohammed Al-Bara. The Dean of the National oilseed processing research institute Dr. El-Fadel Yousef Al-Mojtaba reviewed the Institute’s progress and developments in the field of oil palm production and processing, praising the continuous cooperation with Malaysia and providing training opportunities for the Institute’s staff. Professor Al-Sanousi praised the relations between Sudan and Malaysia and expressed the readiness of the University of the Gezira to exchange experiences and scientific research with Malaysian Universities. Istak stressed the importance of transferring Malaysian expertise and contributing material support in the field of oil palm research and the need to sign a memorandum of understanding between the University and the Malaysian embassy in many fields serving the two countries. The delegation visited the oil palm farm and incubators project at the building of the National oilseed processing research institute.
